Marta Hummel Mossburg is a senior fellow at the Maryland Public Policy Institute and a columnist with The Washington Examiner and launched the opinion coverage of The Baltimore Examiner in April 2006, serving as editorial page editor until the paper's close in February 2009. During her tenure there she won the 2007 Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association's award for best editorial for papers with over 100,000 in circulation. She made The Examiner's editorial pages a must-read for those seeking a second opinion on state politics, attracting key businesses and political and community leaders as contributors. She aggravated politicians throughout the state with data-driven analysis of bad policy and earned death threats for exposing the salaries of Baltimore City employees. She is a regular on Maryland news programs throughout the state.
Prior to moving to Maryland in 2006, Marta was a reporter for The News & Record in Greensboro, N.C. She holds a master's in journalism from Northwestern University and a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia. She lives with her family in Baltimore City.
