Feb 12, 2018

ROCKVILLE, MD (February 12, 2018) — The Maryland Public Policy Institute today welcomed two new members to its team to expand the Institute’s public outreach and policy analysis. The Institute named Jennifer Butler its External Relations Fellow and Carol Park a Senior Policy Analyst.

“Jennifer and Carol will play critical roles in our efforts to strengthen the Institute’s relationships statewide and accelerate our landmark pension reform initiative,” said Christopher B. Summers, president and chief executive officer of the Institute. “The Institute is entering an exciting phase of rapid growth, and it would not be possible without the thousands of supporters we have across Maryland.”

As External Relations Fellow, Mrs. Butler will advise the Institute on outreach strategy and policy summit planning. She has over 20 years of experience in the public policy arena. For the last 11 years she has worked with the network of free market think tanks across the country. Prior to this, she headed up several trade associations’ government affairs departments in South Florida advocating for private property rights, advancement of homeownership opportunities, and limited government.  A graduate of the political science department at Florida State University, she later earned a Master’s in public administration with an emphasis in administrative law from Portland State University.

As Senior Policy Analyst, Mrs. Park will analyze the state pension systems in Maryland and other states and formulate new, forward-thinking policy solutions to benefit Maryland and the nation. Carol graduated with an M.A. in international and development economics from Yale University and received her B.A. from the University of Toronto, double majoring in economics and international relations. She worked previously as a research associate at the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation and as a policy researcher at the Independent Institute.
