Institute Commends Gov. Hogan, MdTA for Reducing Tolls

May 23, 2018

ROCKVILLE, MD (May 23, 2018) — The Maryland Public Policy Institute today commended Governor Larry Hogan and the Maryland Transportation Authority for permanently eliminating the $7.50 EZ-Pass Transponder fee. Combined with the 2015 reduction in tolls statewide, the governor’s new plan will save commuters $316 million.

“For too long, Maryland drivers have been overcharged at the tolls in order subsidize questionable transit projects elsewhere in Maryland,” said Christopher B. Summers, president and chief executive officer of the Institute. “Governor Hogan and MDTA are right to return Marylanders’ hard-earned money to their pocketbooks, and to encourage tourism and growth by making it easier to visit other parts of the state.”

In 2015, the Hogan Administration lowered Maryland tolls at the Bay Bridge, Intercounty Connector, Harbor Crossings, and elsewhere, returning $270 million to Marylanders.
