BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF) - The Baltimore City Council is reducing its full council meeting schedule. The reduced schedule is something council members say occurs every summer. But should they reconsider, given the pressing issues the city is facing?

The reduced full council meeting schedule comes during a city in crisis with pressing issues, including severe crimes. Seemingly day after day, their stories of illegal dumping in neighborhoods across the city continue to worsen.

Another pressing issue is a surge in gun violence, with 192 homicides and 381 shootings in the city so far this year.

Sean Kennedy, with the Maryland Public Policy Institute, weighs in on the council's move.

"The fact that the city council wants to limit the number and hours they're working in the public's purview, is a concern for the taxpayers and residents of Baltimore who face a number of challenges," said Kennedy.

Fox 45 reached to Council President Nick Mosby's spokesperson for comment, but as of Wednesday night had not heard back.
