ROCKVILLE, MD (March 28, 2022) - Gov. Hogan announced Thursday that his administration will spend $45 million for major violent crime initiatives in Baltimore City.

Sean Kennedy, visiting fellow at the Maryland Public Policy Institute and criminal justice expert, issued the following statement in response:

Governor Hogan's strategic investments in more policing and more prosecutors are not new but they are tried and true.     Plain and simple, they work.

Hogan's proposals to target gun offenders with swift and certain consequences and increase accountability through transparency are commonsense. The public deserves to know that offenders will face justice and those that oversee our justice system are doing their duty to keep the public safe. It is a travesty that many in Annapolis oppose holding anyone accountable for the breakdown in law and order under their watch, so it's up to Marylanders to hold them accountable at the ballot box.
