BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Analysts are predicting 2022 could prove to be the deadliest in Baltimore's history.

After studying a decade of crime patterns, Sean Kennedy, with the Maryland Public Policy Institute, says the city is on-track to see more than 375 homicides this year.

That would be the most homicides that Baltimore has seen since 1993 when the death toll hit 353.

"The fact that we're ahead of schedule, effectively, means we're going to have a bloody summer," Kennedy said.

Already this year, both homicides and non-fatal shootings, are far outpacing previous years.

"At the end of the day, Baltimore is seeing more people die than ever before and everyone at City Hall isn't taking responsibility. It needs to end," Kennedy said.

On Tuesday, Mayor Brandon Scott announced several crime-reducing strategies during his State of the City address.

"Change is happening and violent crime is being addressed and will continue to be addressed," Scott said.

However, Kennedy insists the statistics are painting a whole different picture.

"The strategies he proposes don't actually work and there's little evidence that they will," Kennedy said.
