BALTIMORE (WBFF) - A series of get-tough measures aimed at reducing the amount of gun violence on the streets will soon be arriving in Baltimore.

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden met with Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and several other leaders of U.S. cities to lay out the governments plan of attack.

The measures call for stiffer penalties for gun traffickers and tighter restrictions for gun dealers. They also include expanded grants for local governments now fighting the gun war.

"It's an outrage that has to end and we'll end it, period," said President Biden.

The President made it clear that the federal government will lead the new initiative.

"I think the President called the Mayor to DC to say whether you request us or not, we're coming," said former FBI agent Dr. Tyrone Powers.

Powers predicts the effort will yield results but not everyone is convinced.

"The Biden solution is not a solution at all," said Sean Kennedy with the Maryland Public Policy Institute.

"It papers over the real problems and puts forward feel good options none of which will work and as a result we'll see more bodies in the streets," said Kennedy.
